1:1 & Group Tuition

Lesson includes Tab & Video of Lesson

Anyone can begin to learn guitar at any age, I have been teaching students from 6yrs to 60+ over the last 10 years… I myself began learning guitar when I was nearly 30 years old, I had no previous musical teaching or experience, no-one in my family played any instrument and I was advised to give up taking music classes in school at age 14 and therefore did so. I learned Blues and Rock on Electric and Acoustic Guitars, then went to Andalucia in Spain for 2 years where I began to learn Flamenco Guitar in 1999.

Much of which I teach is Pop, Rock, Folk and Blues, but for now here is one of the first things in Flamenco I learned…

I will also be running the New Plaza Stage – 12.00pm till 2.30pm on Saturday 25.07.15

PLAZA STAGE

12.00 – TBA

12.35 – Dean Macdonald

1.10 – Simon Kempston

1.45 – Kitty Macfarlane

12.35 – Dean MacDonald

Dean MacDonald is the songwriter and rhythm guitarist in Coventry band The Session.  With over 400 gigs behind him with his female fronted band over the last 13 years and with 5 original albums he has now decided it’s about time he plays an acoustic set on his own. In his own words…..”I’m really looking forward to getting out and playing on my own at Warwick Folk Festival,  being in a band is all very safe and I’m not really a frontman and I tend to leave all the crowd interaction to our lead vocalist in our band so this will be something new for me.”  www.thesession.info

Kitty Macfarlane at Warwick Arts Centre1.10 – Kitty Macfarlane

Kitty Macfarlane is a 21 year old songwriter from Somerset whose lyrics combine honest snippets of everyday humanity with the bigger questions that have connected minds and voices for centuries. She was recently shortlisted for the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Award. From the Colston Hall to folk clubs up and down the land, Kitty has performed both on her own and as support for some wonderful artists including Reg Meuross, Isambarde and Feast of Fiddles (where she was accompanied by Steeleye Span’s Peter Knight). Kitty hosts a regular radio show called Pop Up Folk and her own ‘Bus Song’ received airtime when it was featured on BBC Radio4 http://www.facebook.com/kittymacfarlane

Simon Kempston_FestivalPicture1.45 – Simon Kempston

Highly regarded Scottish songwriter and leading fingerstyle guitarist. An award-winning songwriter and an inspiring, poetic lyricist, his distinctive guitar playing is steeped in the history of the folk, blues and celtic traditions and is complemented by a rich, powerful and compelling vocal. Having performed to critical acclaim in esteemed venues and festivals all over Europe, Simon’s recorded output has received rave reviews nationwide. An intense performer, and an incredibly talented musician Simon’s beautifully crafted folk-tinged songs transport the listener on a uniquely Scottish journey. www.simonkempston.co.uk

26.03.17. – It’s been nearly 2 years since I last posted anything here…

I’ll use this blog to keep records or thoughts on the next 11 weeks of a fitness programme I started on Friday (24.03.17) This is a big challenge for me so writing about it will hopefully contribute to helping me… if it inspires others that would be great too.My goal is to be the healthiest I have ever been mentally and physically (although realistically I feel the physical side may take a little longer.)

Music Events: Some amazingly talented Musicians and Songwriters listed here…

‘Melody Lounge’ every Friday at The Grand Union, Leamington Spa is ever popular, in it’s 4th year and going stronger than ever. We now have at least 2 talented featured acts every Friday + Open Mic. Looking forward to the good weather now with performances on the canal side roof garden terrace with it’s sunset backdrop. Fully booked with great acts till August. Free Entry for this one!  More info here on the venue and acts coming up: https://mattflamenco.com/2014/04/14/melody-lounge/

‘Night of the Musicians’ every second Saturday of the month in the Beer Hall at The Wild Boar, Warwick. Now fully booked till December with the cream of local and further afield talent. A very popular evening, the last 3 have been sold out, we had to turn a fair few people away at the door who hadn’t purchased tickets in advance, a few early arrivals managed to pay on gate as there were a few tickets left – Tickets at just £5 available from the venue or myself. More info here on the venue and great acts coming up: https://mattflamenco.com/2014/04/14/night-of-the-musicians-on-the-saturday-1st-june-in-the-beer-hall-at-the-wild-boar-warwick-pub-of-the-year-2013/

‘Acoustic Tuesday’ Another eve at The Wild Boar every last Tuesday of the month with talented acoustic folks and their music. Fully booked with acts till December: https://mattflamenco.com/2014/03/10/acoustic-tuesday-every-last-tuesday-of-the-month-from-7-30pm-in-the-beer-hall-at-the-wild-boar-warwick/

‘Acoustic Roots’ Every 1st Sunday of the month at The Clarendon in Leamington Spa. Another very popular venue with top talent. Again Free entry to a fine eve of acoustic music. The Pub has had a re-shuffle and the music is now on the raised area away from the busy bar which makes for a much more attentive and intimate audience. https://mattflamenco.com/2014/03/10/acoustic-roots-at-the-clarendon-lspa-sun-5th-may-at-8pm-every-1st-sunday-of-the-month/

Enough about shows…  here’s a wee tutorial vid on playing a Flamenco rumba rhythm on guitar. Next time I’ll post a tutorial vid for complete beginners showing 3 easy chords and a nice rhythm to go with the chords. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TRADhTBwCbw
